Rockville, Md. — The JBG Cos. has begun construction on the first phase of the $6 million project.

Rockville, Md. — Construction is underway at 275 N. Washington St. in the heart of downtown Rockville, Md., on an approximately $6 million mixed-use project. The JBG Cos. is leading the first phase with its 275 North Washington development, a two-story office and retail building, which will include a new Bank of America branch to replace an existing one nearby. The new building will feature historic architecture on the exterior with office lofts and street-level retail and restaurant space inside. The building will be delivered in spring 2014.

The Shelter Group, a Baltimore-based developer, plans to build the Brightview Rockville Town Center, a 190-unit independent and assisted-living residence, next door. Construction is set to begin on Brightview Rockville Town Center in 2014 with the first apartments scheduled to open 18 months later.

City officials are coordinating planning and design efforts for new streets and public parks that will connect the area to the restaurants and shopping at Rockville Town Square.
