South Gate, Calif. – Construction on the 32-acre retail hub began in September 2012.
The construction of the Azalea regional shopping center has been complete, bringing a new 32-acre retail hub to the city of South Gate, California. The center was designed by Nadel Architects and is owned by Primestor Development, Inc. The project includes more than 370,000 square feet of retail space and 37 stores. Construction on the site began in September 2012.
Major tenants of the center include Forever 21, Sketchers, Wet Seal, Marshalls and ULTA. Restaurant tenants include Blaze Pizza, Habit Burger, Compañia de Café, TGI Fridays, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Yogurtland and In-N-Out Burger.
“The intent of this project was to create a dynamic shopping experience, providing jobs and more retail choices for the local community,” says Greg Lyon, principal and design director with Nadel, Inc. “What South Gate residents now have is a center with a contemporary architectural design that creates a sophisticated and immersive environment.”
Landscape design elements include concrete walls in varying heights to accent primary pedestrian entries, and integral lighting. Additional amenities include a pop-jet fountain, recessed amphitheater, reflection pool, lounge seating areas and access to complimentary Wi-Fi.
The use of recycled materials and reclaimed water contributed toward LEED credits for this project, which is intended to be LEED certified.
In addition to Lyon, Nadel’s architectural team included David Anderson, AIA, retail studio director. The landscape design was completed by Conceptual Design & Planning Company (CDPC).
