Toronto and Syracuse, N.Y. — Toronto-based Restaurant Brands International Inc. (RBI) has agreed to acquire Syracuse-based Carrols Restaurant Group Inc. for $1 billion. RBI (NYSE: QSR) owns the Burger King, Popeyes, Firehouse Subs and Tim Hortons brands. Carrols (NASDAQ: TAST) is the largest Burger King franchisee in the United States, operating 1,022 locations in 23 states. Sarasota, Fla. — Colliers has arranged the $30.5 million sale of Glengary Shoppes, a 95,489-square-foot shopping center located along South Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. Benderson Development purchased the property from Jacksonville-based REIT Regency Centers. Brad Peterson and Whitaker Leonhardt of Colliers represented the seller in the transaction. Built in 1995, Glengary Shoppes was 97 percent leased at the time of sale to tenants including Best Buy and Barnes & Noble. Regions Bank and IHOP occupy outparcels at the shopping center.
Milan, Tenn. — Marcus & Millichap has brokered the $4.7 million sale of Marketplace at Milan, a 39,726-square-foot retail center located in Milan in western Tennessee. The property was 96 percent leased at the time of sale. Austin Sweet, Alex Perez and Chris Garavaglia of Marcus & Millichap represented the seller, an undisclosed partnership. The team also secured and represented the buyer, a private investor. Jody McKibben assisted in closing the sale as the Tennessee broker of record.
Pittsburgh — The Fresh Market will open a 32,131-square-foot store in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood. The building was originally constructed in 2002 for Whole Foods Market, which vacated the space in 2022 for a larger store on nearby Penn Avenue. Herky Pollock of CBRE represented the undisclosed landlord in the lease negotiations. Brian Kerr of Hanna Langholz Wilson Ellis represented the tenant. The store will be Fresh Market’s first in Pittsburgh.
San Diego — NOVO Brazil Brewing Co. has opened an 11,500-square-foot restaurant and sports bar within Mission Valley, a 1.1 million-square-foot open-air shopping center located in San Diego. Situated within a space formerly occupied by Tilted Kilt, the concept features an 8,000-square-foot dining room, 3,500-square-foot outdoor patio, a 40-seat bar and extensive LED video walls for viewing sporting events. Other tenants at Mission Valley include Target, Nordstrom Rack, Macy’s Home, Michael’s, Bloomingdale’s Outlet, 24-Hour Fitness, Yard House, Outback, Buffalo Wild Wings and AMC.
Henderson, Nev. — LOGIC Commercial Real Estate has arranged the sale of Emerald Island and Rainbow Club Casino in downtown Henderson. An affiliate of ECL Water Street LCC, a Las Vegas-based company with 45 properties in three states, acquired the properties from Tim Brooks for an undisclosed price. The buyer company is led by Ron Winchell and Marc Falcone. Tim Brooks, former owner, will continue overseeing both properties’ day-to-day operations as general manager. The locally based bourbon brand plans to invest $4.8 million to develop the two-story distillery spanning 10,215 square feet and including an entrance off Main Street. Totaling approximately 17,500 square feet, the centers are primarily leased to local tenants including a marijuana dispensary, coffee shop, pizza parlor, regional medical provider and laundromat. Brunswick, Ga. — Buc-ee’s will develop a 74,000-square-foot travel center in Brunswick. Construction is scheduled to begin Jan. 29 with a groundbreaking. Upon completion, the property will feature 120 fueling stations, as well as a store offering snack, meal and drink options. Buc-ee’s currently operates 47 stores throughout Texas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Missouri and Tennessee.
