New Orleans — Stirling Properties has purchased land that will enable it to develop Mid-City Market in the Crescent City.

New Orleans — Covington, La.-based Stirling Properties has closed on a land purchase along the North Carrollton Avenue commercial corridor in New Orleans that will allow the company to develop a 107,713-square-foot neighborhood city that will open over the next few years. A 53,000-square-foot Winn-Dixie will anchor Mid-City Market, which will be built on a blighted site along Carrollton Avenue.

Stirling Properties is developing a Winn-Dixie-anchored center in Mid-City New Orleans.

“Another step in the city’s recovery is being represented by redeveloping a blighted site into one of the city’s premier retail environments,” said Townsend Underhill, vice president of development for Stirling Properties, in a statement.

Stirling is demolishing the former Bohn Ford dealership to build the Winn-Dixie. Stirling will also construct three new buildings on the site and renovate an existing building to create space for retail and restaurants. VergesRome Architects is designing the center, and Donahue Favret Contractors is the contractor. The first phase of the center is expected to open in the first quarter of 2013.
