Kroger, Bed Bath & Beyond to Collaborate on E-Commerce Offering, In-Store Pilot Program

Cincinnati and Union, N.J. — Cincinnati-based The Kroger Co. and Union, New Jersey-based Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. have unveiled plans for a collaboration to directly offer Kroger customers the home and baby products carried by Bed Bath & Beyond. The products will be available on Kroger’s website as well as a small-scale, physical store pilot program at select Kroger stores beginning in 2022. The products will include bedding, storage, baby furniture and baby gear from both Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy Baby.

Publix to Hire 30,000 Employees in Fourth Quarter of 2021

Lakeland, Fla. — Publix plans to hire 30,000 employees during the fourth quarter of 2021. New employees will work across the company’s portfolio of 1,284 stores, nine distribution centers and 11 manufacturing facilities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia. Employee benefits at Publix include tuition reimbursement and a stock ownership program. The Lakeland, Florida-based company is also rewarding employees that receive the COVID-19 vaccination with a $125 Publix gift card.

Kmart to Close Last Store in State of Michigan

Marshall, Mich. — Kmart is closing its final store in the state of Michigan, according to local media reports. The last remaining store is in Marshall, which is located just east of Battle Creek and about 45 miles south of Lansing. The store is expected to close in November. Walmart Plans to Hire 150,000 Associates in Preparation for Holiday Season

Bentonville, Ark. — Walmart, has released plans to hire approximately 150,000 new store associates, with most of the job positions being permanent and full-time. The Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer wants to hire new employees ahead of the holiday season to ensure its stores are highly staffed for the predicted busy months. Sears to Close Last Store in Illinois

Schaumburg, Ill. — Sears is set to close its last store in the state of Illinois, according to reports by the Daily Herald and Crain’s Chicago Business. The Hoffman Estates-based retailer’s only remaining Illinois location is at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, which is scheduled to close on Sunday, Nov. 14. Simon Property Group is the mall owner. The parent company of Sears, Transformco, is pursuing redevelopment plans for the store, according to Crain’s.
