Cincinnati and Union, N.J. — Cincinnati-based The Kroger Co. and Union, New Jersey-based Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. have unveiled plans for a collaboration to directly offer Kroger customers the home and baby products carried by Bed Bath & Beyond. The products will be available on Kroger’s website as well as a small-scale, physical store pilot program at select Kroger stores beginning in 2022. The products will include bedding, storage, baby furniture and baby gear from both Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy Baby.

Lakeland, Fla. — Publix plans to hire 30,000 employees during the fourth quarter of 2021. New employees will work across the company’s portfolio of 1,284 stores, nine distribution centers and 11 manufacturing facilities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia. Employee benefits at Publix include tuition reimbursement and a stock ownership program. Marshall, Mich. — Kmart is closing its final store in the state of Michigan, according to local media reports. The last remaining store is in Marshall, which is located just east of Battle Creek and about 45 miles south of Lansing. The store is expected to close in November. Kmart opened its first location in Garden City, Michigan, in 1962. At its prime in the 1990s, Kmart operated more than 2,300 locations in the United States. Bentonville, Ark. — Walmart, has released plans to hire approximately 150,000 new store associates, with most of the job positions being permanent and full-time. The Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer wants to hire new employees ahead of the holiday season to ensure its stores are highly staffed for the predicted busy months. Schaumburg, Ill. — Sears is set to close its last store in the state of Illinois, according to reports by the Daily Herald and Crain’s Chicago Business. The Hoffman Estates-based retailer’s only remaining Illinois location is at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, which is scheduled to close on Sunday, Nov. 14. Simon Property Group is the mall owner. The parent company of Sears, Transformco, is pursuing redevelopment plans for the store, according to Crain’s.

Cleveland — MCG Architecture has partnered with Mark Trommsdorff, who will work on Southeast business development for the Cleveland-based design firm. Trommsdorff recently retired from Kimco Realty Corp. where he worked for over 33 years. Over the past 20 years, Trommsdorff has been involved with retail and mixed-use development projects in 20 states, mainly in the Southeast. Trommsdorff’s focus at MCG will be maintaining the firm’s current clients as well as developing new client relationships.
