Anaheim, Calif. — The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) has proposed a $1.9 billion expansion of its Disneyland Resort and surrounding neighborhood in Anaheim, south of Los Angeles in Orange County. Miami — SG Holdings has completed leasing at Sawyer’s Walk, a 3.4-acre mixed-use development underway in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood. The project, which will feature retail space, offices and affordable housing for seniors, is set to open this summer. SG Holdings is a partnership comprising Swerdlow Group, SJM Partners and Alben Duffie. The development team broke ground on Sawyer’s Walk in summer 2021. Surprise, Ariz. — A joint venture between GTIS Partners and Clyde Capital has released plans for Asante Trails, a $250 million mixed-use project in Surprise, a suburb of Phoenix. The development will feature a build-to-rent community, retail space and a medical facility, all of which will be built across 90 acres of land. In conjunction with the land acquisition, GTIS and Clyde sold 20 acres within the project site to HonorHealth, one of Arizona’s largest hospital systems, to develop the medical facility. Lexington, S.C. — Lowes Foods has signed a lease to anchor Platt Springs Crossing, a 50-acre mixed-use development currently underway in Lexington. Lowes Foods will occupy 51,000 square feet. Other tenants will include Chipotle Mexican Grill, Tidal Wave Car Wash, Panda Express and Planet Fitness. An affiliate of NAI Columbia doing business as LLDC Platt Springs LF LLC is the developer of the project, which is scheduled to begin opening early next year. Kansas and Missouri — Arkansas-based fast-casual brand Slim Chickens has signed a franchise deal for the development of 14 restaurants in Kansas and Missouri. Jeff McCoy of AP Restaurant Group, an established Slim Chickens franchisee with stores in Oklahoma and Kansas City, will own and operate the restaurants. Slim Chickens’ current footprint includes more than 250 locations in the U.S. and the U.K., with more than 1,200 restaurants in development.
Conshohocken, Pa. — IKEA will open four stores featuring its new Plan & Order Point with Pick-Up format. Scheduled to open this year, the stores will be located in Austin, Texas, metro Atlanta and the greater Los Angeles area. Situated within Domain Shopping Center, the Austin store will open this summer and will mark the second IKEA location in the city. Tampa, Fla. — LD&D, an investment, development and design firm headquartered in Miami, has unveiled plans for its $200 million Cass Square mixed-use project in downtown Tampa. LD&D plans to break ground on Phase I of the project, a luxury multifamily tower, this summer. The 28-story multifamily building will be called DoMo at Cass Square. Toronto and Syracuse, N.Y. — Toronto-based Restaurant Brands International Inc. (RBI) has agreed to acquire Syracuse-based Carrols Restaurant Group Inc. for $1 billion. RBI (NYSE: QSR) owns the Burger King, Popeyes, Firehouse Subs and Tim Hortons brands. Carrols (NASDAQ: TAST) is the largest Burger King franchisee in the United States, operating 1,022 locations in 23 states. Lexington, Ky. — RD1 Spirts has signed on to join as an anchor tenant at The Commons, a 40-acre mixed-use development in downtown Lexington. The locally based bourbon brand plans to invest $4.8 million to develop the two-story distillery spanning 10,215 square feet and including an entrance off Main Street. Brunswick, Ga. — Buc-ee’s will develop a 74,000-square-foot travel center in Brunswick. Construction is scheduled to begin Jan. 29 with a groundbreaking. Upon completion, the property will feature 120 fueling stations, as well as a store offering snack, meal and drink options. Buc-ee’s currently operates 47 stores throughout Texas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Missouri and Tennessee.
