Frisco, Texas — Universal Parks & Resorts has announced plans to open a new theme park on a 97-acre site in the northern Dallas suburb of Frisco. East Rutherford, N.J. — WHP Global will open the first flagship Babies “R” Us store at American Dream, a retail and entertainment development comprising 3 million square feet in East Rutherford, roughly 10 miles outside of New York City. In addition to a Baby Registry Lounge, Nursery Design Center, Learning Center and Comfort Zone, the store will feature interactive experiences such as a stroller test track and photo station. The store is scheduled to open this summer. WHP Global acquired the brand in 2021.

Huntington, N.Y. — Four new tenants are set to open at Huntington Shopping Center, a 21-acre retail center located on Long Island. Federal Realty Investment Trust has arranged leases with The Container Store, Burger Village, Love Sac and Just Salad as part of a $75 million redevelopment currently underway at the property. The Container Store will occupy 15,676 square feet adjacent to Whole Foods Market, which is under construction. Houston — Enson Market, an Asian grocery concept, will open a 100,000-square-foot store in North Houston. The site is located within a 200,000-square-foot vacant shopping center. An affiliate of the company, an entity doing business as Pacific Square of FM LLC, purchased the center with plans to implement capital improvements and lease the remaining 100,000 square feet. Ryan Neyland of Davis Commercial Real Estate represented the seller, Copper Leaf LLC, in the transaction. Casey Ward of CRW Commercial represented the buyer.

Petersburg, Va. — Cordish Cos. has announced plans for a $1.4 billion mixed-use project located in Petersburg, roughly 24 miles south of Richmond. Upon completion, the development, dubbed Live! Gaming & Entertainment District, will comprise 4 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of retail, dining and entertainment space. The property will also include 1,300 residential units, 500 hotel rooms and office space. Built in phases, the project’s first phase will consist of the Live! New York City — Barnes & Noble will open more than 30 new stores next year, the company has announced. A location at Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn is scheduled to be the first of the new bookstores in 2023.  In 2022, the company opened more new locations than it had in any year since 2009. Barnes & Noble attributes the growth to a “reading renaissance.”

New York City — Whole Foods Market will open a 42,000-square-foot store in the One Wall Street building at 66 Broadway in New York City. Opening Jan. 11, the location will include a specialty cheesemaker and artisan department, seafood counter, meat counter, prepared foods section, full-service coffee bar, bakery and an extensive selection of craft beers. The store will also feature over 1,000 local items curated by John Lawson of Whole Foods and an Art Deco-inspired design.

Charleston, S.C. — SJC Ventures has announced plans to break ground on the second phase of West Ashley Station, a retail center in Charleston, later this month. The first phase was built in 2016 with a 45,062-square-foot Whole Foods Market as the anchor tenant. Phase II of the development will add 20,000 square feet of shopping, dining and fitness space. Louisville, Ky. — Publix Super Markets has purchased land at the northwest corner of Flat Rock and Shelbyville roads in Louisville with plans to develop the market’s third Publix location. The Courier-Journalreports that the grocer purchased the site from an entity doing business as Shoppes at Gardiner Park LLC for more than $5.5 million. Plans call for a 48,387-square-foot store with a pharmacy and an adjacent Publix Liquors store that will offer beer, wine and spirits.
