Marina, Calif. — 35,000-square-foot theaters will open in 2013, launching second phase of development in master-planned community.
Marina, Calif. — Shea Properties and Cinemark Holdings, parent company of Century Theatres, has announced a deal that will bring a 10-screen digital cinema to the Dunes on Monterey Bay shopping center in the city of Marina.
The theater will launch the shopping center’s second phase of development, which is being called 10th Street and will eventually become the center of the master-planned community with a village square that connects to beach areas, neighborhood parks and surrounding homes and retail. The community is managed by Marina Community Partners, a group that had been seeking opportunities to improve Marina’s entertainment options.
The 35,000-square-foot theaters will open in 2013, seat 1,650 moviegoers and feature the company’s XD (Extreme Digital) technology in one of the 10 theaters. Phase one of the Dunes on Monterey Bay is an existing 375,000-square-foot regional center anchored by Target with Kohl’s, REI, Best Buy, Old Navy, Michael’s and Bed Bath & Beyond. Famous Footwear was recently added, opening March 14.
