Real Estate Icon Fred Sands Dies at Age 77

Los Angeles — Fred C. Sands, founder of Fred Sands Realtors and Vintage Capital Group, died unexpectedly October 23 at the age of 77.

Fred Sands Realtors became the second largest real estate and financial services company in California before being sold to Coldwell Banker in 2000, and generated $9.4 billion in sales volume per year.

Most recently, Sands served as head of Vintage Capital Group, which was founded in 2001 and includes Vintage Real Estate and Vintage Fund Management.

Sands was also a founder of the Museum of Contemporary Art and served as president of the board of directors and chair of its investment committee. Sands is survived by his wife, Carla; son, Jonathan; daughter, Alexandra; and brother, William Sands.
