Ann Arbor, Mich. — A joint venture between Hines and Simon Property Group (NYSE: SPG) has broken ground on a mixed-use development at Briarwood Mall, a regional mall in Ann Arbor.  Owned by Simon, Briarwood Mall opened its doors in October 1973. GIANT

Philadelphia — Grocery chain GIANT will open a new, 50,000-square-foot store at Andorra Shopping Center in Philadelphia. Construction of the space is scheduled to begin in 2025. Federal Realty Investment Trust is the landlord and also plans to reposition 30,000 square feet of existing retail space, with the two projects representing a combined investment of $25 million. Repositioning plans include the addition of landscaped plazas, outdoor dining and curbside pick-up spaces and expanded sidewalks.

Bojangles-rendering

Cordova, Tenn. — Bojangles has broken ground on a new restaurant property situated on an outparcel within Market at Cordova Shopping Center in Cordova. Completion of the development is scheduled for early 2025. John Reed and Hurston Reed of The Shopping Center Group (TSCG) negotiated the lease between Bojangles and the outparcel owner, The Life Church. A 55,000-square-foot Grand Super Market anchors Market at Cordova Shopping Center, which N&L Holdings acquired this past July.

Providence Village, Texas — GBT Realty Corp. is underway on the development of Providence Marketplace, a retail center that will total 33,700 square feet in Providence Village, roughly 45 miles north of Dallas. A 23,300-square-foot Sprouts Farmers Market will anchor the property, which will also feature roughly 10,400 square feet of small shop space and three outparcels. GBT acquired the development site in August.

Austin, Texas — Partners Group and Presidium are underway on the addition of a 65,000-square-foot indoor entertainment venue at River Park, a mixed-use project being developed by the joint venture. A third-party developer and operator will open the venue, which will serve as an anchor for the first phase of River Park and will host live music shows, community events and other programming.  Upon completion, River Park will also feature retail, office and residential space, as well as public parks and trails.

Elgin, S.C. — Eagle Development Group and Hoffman United have broken ground on a new retail development in Elgin. Upon completion, the property will total 5,000 square feet. Firehouse Subs and Valvoline Instant Oil will occupy the development, which is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2025. Situated within the Spears Creek retail corridor, the property will also feature 24 parking spaces.

Chicago — Architecture firm Lamar Johnson Collaborative (LJC) has released renderings for a transformative vision for Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile retail corridor in downtown Chicago. The Magnificent Mile Association commissioned the plan, known as MM2050, to explore innovative solutions for addressing vacancies instigated by the COVID-19 pandemic. LJC created a series of conceptual renderings, guided by four design pillars: people, place, technology and experience. The renderings showcase ideas for enhancing public spaces, improving pedestrian connectivity and encouraging sustainable, mixed-use development. Charlotte, N.C. and Travelers Rest, S.C. — Eggs Up Grill — a breakfast, brunch and lunch chain — has signed a new, seven-unit development agreement in North and South Carolina. Franchisee Conley McIntyre, who has a portfolio of existing Eggs Up outposts, will develop, own and operate the restaurants. Six of the locations will be in the Charlotte, North Carolina market, with an additional location in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. There are more than 100 Eggs Up Grill restaurants planned or currently underway.

Santa Rosa, Calif. — WS Development has completed the renovation and expansion of public gathering spaces at Montgomery Village, a 280,000-square-foot retail center located in Santa Rosa, as well as added new tenants. Surprise, Ariz. — Nordstrom Rack has signed a 26,000-square-foot lease at Prasada North, a shopping center development currently underway by SimonCRE in Surprise. Upon completion, Prasada North, which is located adjacent to the developer’s Village at Prasada shopping center, will total 350,000 square feet. A 150,000-square-foot Target will anchor the property, which is roughly 90 percent leased. Tenants currently open at the center include DICK’s Sporting Goods, Burlington, Kohl’s, Cooper’s Hawk, Barrio Queen and Cold Beer Cheeseburgers. Nordstrom currently operates one Nordstrom and 11 Nordstrom Rack stores in Arizona.
