Whittier, Calif. — San Juan Capistrano, California-based ALMQUIST will open Rodeo 72, a 20,000-square-foot food hall in Whittier. The food hall is being created in a building that once housed a juvenile correctional facility. Rodeo 72 will contain 15 food and beverage concepts, a bar and a community-driven space for live music, local art and pop-up events. Smoothie King

Dallas — Smoothie King has opened 13 new stores across eight different states thus far in 2025. Seven of the new store openings are located in Smoothie King’s home state of Texas. The company has also secured 20 new store commitments, with approximately 60 percent of the signings obtained with existing franchises. The new agreement will span 15 different markets across 12 states, including multi-unit deals in Long Island, New York and Phoenix.

Cherry Hill, N.J. — PREIT has signed leases with five new tenants at its Cherry Hill Mall, a 1.3 million-square-foot shopping center located in Cherry Hill. The addition of a 120,000-square-foot DICK’s House of Sport will anchor the center, which is scheduled to open in 2026. The athletics retailer will offer in-store experiences such as a rock-climbing wall, multiple golf bays with TrackMan simulators, an outdoor track and field, as well as a multi-sport cage that customers can use to test products. Houston — Whitestone REIT is underway with the redevelopment of Lion Square, a 117,592-square-foot shopping center located in Southwest Houston’s Asiatown District at the intersection of Bellaire Boulevard and Wilcrest Drive. The capital improvement program includes installing new monument signage and pylons, widening the main access point and updating the landscape design. Bentonville, Ark. — Sam’s Club, a division of Walmart, has announced plans to remodel all 600 of its existing membership-based stores nationwide. As part of its long-term strategy, Sam’s Club will also open 30 new locations over the next several years while building a pipeline to begin opening 15 new clubs annually. Kiley Ranch concept

Sparks, Nev. — Barclay Group has acquired a 46.7-acre site in Sparks for $25.6 million, with plans to develop the property into a 400,000-square-foot retail center. Dubbed Kiley Ranch Marketplace, the development will become the first new retail power center in Sparks since 2005. Phase I of the project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026. Shawn Smith and Sean Retzloff of Kidder Mathews represented both Barclay Group and the seller, KM2 Development, Inc., in the transaction. Kidder Mathews will also handle leasing for the project.
