Chicago — Starbucks Coffee Co. has opened its Reserve Roastery in downtown Chicago. The 35,000-square-foot, five-story roastery opened to the public Friday, Nov. 15 and is the largest Starbucks location. The store is located in the Magnificent Mile in a space formerly occupied by Crate & Barrel. All of the coffee beans roasted at the facility are served and sold on site. The eight-screen location will be part of Mustang Square, a 36-acre mixed-use development that will include 90,000 square feet of office space, hotels, residential villas and townhomes and a public plaza. Linwood Investors Breaks Ground on Redevelopment of Retail Strip Center in Kansas City
Kansas City, Mo. — Linwood Investors LLC has broken ground on its $8 million redevelopment of Linwood Square, a blighted retail strip center in the Linwood-Prospect corridor on Kansas City’s east side. The project complements the redevelopment of the Linwood Shopping Center, which the company completed in 2017. Linwood Square is a 55,000-square-foot property originally built in 1992. Project plans call for new exterior facades and roofing as well as energy-efficient HVAC, LED lighting and an interior redesign. Project funding comes from public incentives and private financing. Boston — Kitchen remodeling firm Express Kitchens plans to significantly increase its Massachusetts footprint in 2020 by opening three new retail stores and five new showrooms in and around the Boston area. Express Kitchens will open stores in the suburbs of Lynn, Watertown, Dedham, Peabody, Reading, Medford, Brockton and Weymouth. Showrooms will display a range of kitchens, cabinets and countertops, which customers will be able to purchase for their homes in-store or from the company’s website.
Loughman, Fla. — Publix Super Markets Inc. has opened a 49,000-square-foot store within Loughman Crossing in Loughman. The prototype location includes a drive-thru pharmacy. Halvorsen Holdings is developing Loughman Crossing, which is also home to Publix Liquors, AT&T, Great Clips, Erlyn’s Taxes and Encore Nails. Loughman Crossing spans 78,200 square feet and includes six outparcels. Located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 17-92 and Ronald Reagan Parkway, the property sits 15 miles southwest of Walt Disney World and 30 miles southwest of downtown Orlando.
New York City — Wegmans Food Markets will open a 74,000-square-foot grocery store at the Brooklyn Navy Yard mixed-use development. The chain has garnered a cult following in the Northeast since it expanded from its original Rochester location in 1968 and now operates 100 stores, including 46 in New York. Eater New York reports that the new store will feature 350 varieties of cheese, a full-service bar and made-to-order meals at several hot and cold bars. The store is slated to open Sunday, Oct. 27.
Cypress Equities Acquires 1.2 Million-Square-Foot Bayshore Town Center Near Milwaukee, Plans Repositioning
Glendale, Wis. — Cypress Equities has acquired the 1.2 million-square-foot Bayshore Town Center in Glendale near Milwaukee. The purchase price was not disclosed. Cypress plans to reposition the property into an entertainment, shopping, dining and mixed-use project. Once complete, the re-envisioned center will include new architecture, landscaping and art by local creatives. Plans call for more retailers, restaurants, a select-service hotel, 300 new residential units, Class A office space and coworking space. St. Louis — Confluent Development has completed its redevelopment of the historic Southwest Bank property in St. Louis’ Southwest Garden neighborhood. The project features retailers BMO Harris Bank, which remained operational throughout the redevelopment process, and Walgreens, which recently celebrated its grand opening. Confluent Development, a Denver-based real estate investment and development firm, served as the project’s developer and owner. Charlotte, N.C. — Konover South LLC has acquired a six-acre parcel for $4.8 million with plans to develop a 32,000-square-foot retail center. Located near Charlotte Premium Outlets, Freeman Retail Crossing will include a national steak restaurant, banking, mobile services and healthcare tenants. Konover South plans to break ground in early 2020 and expects to deliver Freeman Retail Crossing in the second quarter of 2021. The land is located on Steele Creek Road near I-485 in southwestern Charlotte.
Cedar Realty Trust Underway on 18,000-Square-Foot Retail Redevelopment Project Philadelphia
Philadelphia — Cedar Realty Trust is underway on construction of Fishtown Crossing, a retail redevelopment project in the Olde Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia. The project will convert a shopping center formerly known as Port Richmond Village into an 18,000-square-foot neighborhood center. The property currently houses more than 20 tenants, including grocer IGA, GNC and Kicks USA. Starbucks and 1950s-themed diner Nifty Fifty’s have preleased space at the new center. Construction of Fishtown Crossing is slated for completion by early 2021.
