Regal Cinemas to Temporarily Suspend All U.S. Theater Operations Beginning Oct. 8

Knoxville, Tenn. — Regal Cinemas will temporarily suspend operations at all of its 536 U.S. theaters beginning Thursday, Oct. 8. British owner-operator Cineworld owns Knoxville, Tennessee-based Regal Cinemas, which has about 7,000 screens across its U.S. portfolio of theaters. Cineworld also announced plans to close all of its theaters in the United Kingdom this week. Media Reports: Disney to Lay off 28,000 Employees at Theme Parks in California, Florida

Burbank, Calif. — The Walt Disney Co. will lay off 28,000 employees who were previously furloughed due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to multiple media reports. Disney World in Orlando, Fla., and Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., both closed in mid-March due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Disney’s chief financial officer Christine McCarthy said in May that for every two weeks the parks were closed, the company lost $500 million. Disney World reopened in July with limited capacity, but Disneyland remains closed under California guidelines. A timeline for reopening has not been established. …

Knoebel Construction Builds Drake’s Restaurant in O’Fallon, Illinois

O’Fallon, Ill. — Knoebel Construction has completed building a new Drake’s restaurant in O’Fallon near St. Louis. The 6,014-square-foot restaurant and entertainment venue features two full-service bars and a covered patio. Drake’s, an entity of parent company Bluegrass Hospitality Group, is a Kentucky-based chain with 15 locations across the Midwest and Southeast. The restaurant offers more than 20 craft beers on tap as well as sandwiches, salads, burgers and sushi. Dallas — Dave & Buster’s (NASDAQ: PLAY) reported an 85 percent drop in total revenue for the second quarter relative to that period a year, prompting several media organizations, including The Wall Street Journal, to report that bankruptcy filings may be imminent. New York City — Peloton Interactive Inc. (NASDAQ: PTON), a provider of subscription-based home exercise equipment and routines, reported a 172 percent increase in total revenue during the fourth quarter relative to that period in 2019. With many commercial gyms still operating at reduced capacities and numerous fitness centers at office and apartment buildings still closed, Peloton saw its connected fitness subscriptions and paid digital subscriptions grow by 113 and 210 percent, respectively. New Jersey — AMC Theatres (NYSE: AMC) will open all 27 of its theaters in New Jersey over the course of the next week, which began with the reopening of AMC Jersey Gardens 20 and AMC Wayne 14 on Friday, Sept. 4.
