St. Johns, Fla. — Pebb Enterprises has unveiled its plans for a new 58,900-square-foot, Publix-anchored shopping center in St. Johns. Publix will occupy 48,400 square feet at the center, which will feature 10,500 square feet of in-line retail space. Publix Liquor Store and Lavender Spa have also signed leases at the space. Pebb Enterprises closed on the $2.8 million land sale July 10 and has begun site work. The Boca Raton, Fla.-based developer expects to deliver the property in summer 2021. Washington, D.C. — Whole Foods Market will open a new location July 23 in Washington, D.C. The new 46,000-square-foot grocery store will be situated at 967 Florida Ave. NW in D.C.’s Pleasant Plains neighborhood, less than two miles north of downtown D.C. and less than one mile from Howard University. Reno, Nev. — Safeway has broken ground for a new grocery store at Damonte Ranch Town Center, located at the corner of Steamboat Parkway and Damonte Ranch Parkway in south Reno. The 62,000-square-foot store will be the grocery store chain’s third location in the Reno-Sparks market. Safeway will join RC Willey and The Home Depot as anchor tenants at the 509,000-square-foot shopping center, which Lewis Retail Centers owns. Christianburg, Va. — A group of developers will build a new prototype of the specialty grocer in Christianburg. Walt Rector, founding principal of Flagstaff, Ariz.-based Bromont Investments, and investment partner Chris Carlsen, are leading the development of the Earth Fare, which will be located within  Christianburg Marketplace. Austin, Texas — Whole Foods Market has opened its 35,000-square-foot store at Saltillo, a mixed-use development in East Austin by Endeavor Real Estate Group. The store has served as a fulfillment center for other regional stores during most of the COVID-19 pandemic. The store now offers fresh produce from 75 different growers, full-service meat and seafood departments, a bakery, coffee kiosk and more than 1,000 different wines and 280 different beers, including 150 selections from local alcoholic beverage suppliers.

Seabrook, N.H. — BJ’s Wholesale Club will open a 90,000-square-foot store in Seabrook, approximately 50 miles north of Boston. The newly constructed building will be located on a 20-acre site on the crossroads of Interstate 95 and State Routes 107 and 1. The store will anchor several nearby parcels planned for future commercial development. Slated for delivery in 2021, the new store will be BJ’s seventh in the state. Cincinnati — Digital sales at the Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) increased 92 percent in the first quarter, according to the company’s latest financial results. Total company sales were $42 billion in the first quarter, compared with $37 billion for the same period last year. Kroger does not separately break out its e-commerce sales from total sales. Excluding fuel and dispositions, sales grew 19.1 percent.
