Henderson, N.C. — Henderson, North Carolina-based Variety Wholesalers has announced the first wave of reopenings for its newly obtained Big Lots locations. After Ohio-based Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September 2024, Variety Wholesalers acquired 219 Big Lots stores. Beginning April 10, nine stores will reopen across six states including Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. The remodeled stores will feature a selection of closeout deals, new merchandise categories, apparel and electronics. Centre Point Plaza

Smithfield, N.C. — Legacy Realty Group Advisors has arranged the sale of Centre Pointe Plaza, a 159,259-square-foot retail center in Smithfield, approximately 30 miles southeast of Raleigh. An undisclosed buyer purchased the property for $11.6 million. Originally built in 1989, the shopping center is anchored by Belk. Additional tenants at the property include Bealls, Dollar Tree, Hibbett Sports, Subway and T-Mobile. Daniel Baruch of Legacy Realty Group represented the buyer. Steve Shields of CBRE represented the undisclosed seller in the transaction.

Gastonia and Raleigh, N.C. — Charlotte, North Carolina-based department store chain Belk will open two new outlet stores in North Carolina this spring, marking its second and third outlet locations in the state. The stores will occupy the Eastridge Mall in Gastonia and Triangle Town Center in Raleigh. Charlotte, N.C. — Los Angeles-based Westwood Financial has acquired Eastway Square, a 130,156-square-foot grocery-anchored shopping center in Charlotte. Tenants at the property include Ross Dress For Less, America’s Best, Papa Johns Pizza, Subway, Wingstop, Rainbow Shops, DentalWorks, Hibbett Sports, Showmars and Food Lion, which anchors the center. Berkley Capital Advisors brokered the sale. The price was not disclosed. Eastway Square joins Westwood Financial’s portfolio of grocery-anchored shopping centers in Charlotte including Prosperity Village Square, Steele Creek Crossing, Steelecroft Shopping Center and The Arbors at Mallard Creek.

The property — which is anchored by Food Lion — is situated on more than 15 acres, according to the Triad Business Journal. Cary, N.C. — JLL Capital Markets has facilitated a $191 million mortgage loan for Fenton, a mixed-use development located in Cary, roughly 12 miles west of downtown Raleigh. The property includes 246,000 square feet of retail space, 183,000 square feet of office space and an apartment community — The Allison at Fenton — comprising 367 multifamily units. Chip Sykes and Kelsey Bawcombe of JLL secured the loan on behalf of the borrower, a partnership between Hines, Affinius Capital and Columbia Development. New York Life Real Estate Investors provided the mortgage financing.

Rolesville, N.C. — Crosland Southeast and Core Sound Development has signed 11 new tenants to Wallbrook, an 80-acre mixed-use development located in Rolesville, roughly 17 miles northwest of Raleigh. Built in 1999, the 71,406-square-foot retail center was fully leased at the time of sale. Crunch Fitness anchors the property. Henderson, N.C. — Variety Wholesalers Inc. has announced plans to acquire between 200 and 400 Big Lots stores, in the midst of the retailer’s bankruptcy proceedings. North Carolina-based Variety Wholesalers will acquire the stores, which it will operate under the Big Lots brand, through Gordon Brothers Retail Partners. Gordon Brothers has entered into a sale transaction with Big Lots that will enable the transfer of assets — including stores, distribution centers and intellectual property — to other retailers and companies, including Variety Wholesalers.  Big Lots first filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy …
