Lake Grove, N.Y. — Fast-casual restaurant concept New York Fries has opened at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove. Recipe Restaurant Group owns and operates the brand, which offers an array of fries, as well as poutine and hot dogs. This marks the fourth restaurant to open in the U.S. this year for the concept and the second in New York. Units occupy between 250 and 350 square feet. Simon Property Group is the landlord at the property.

Silver Spring, Md. — Six new food-and-beverage concepts have signed leases to join Commas, a 13,000-square-foot food hall currently underway at Ellsworth Place shopping center in Silver Spring. 6 Skewers, The Champs Kitchen, Claude Have Mercy, Momo Hub, Nim Ali and Café Antigua by Nim Ali will join the food hall, which will feature 11 total stalls. Openings are scheduled to begin this summer. GBT Realty Corp. owns and operates Ellsworth Place, which totals 350,000 square feet.

Orlando, Fla. — Red Lobster has voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida. The Orlando-based seafood restaurant chain plans to sell its business to an entity formed and controlled by its existing lenders. Red Lobster, which was founded in 1968 and operates some 600 restaurants across North America, has received a $100 million debtor-in-possession financing commitment from its existing lenders to facilitate this plan. Houston — Hospitality group Noble 33 will open a new restaurant at The Pavilion at The Allen in Houston June 4. Toca Madera, a Mexican steakhouse, will span 14,000 square feet, with a 393-seat capacity. The restaurant will feature an outdoor dining patio, two full-service bars, a private member’s club and a private dining room.

Fayetteville, Ark. — Arkansas-based fast-casual brand Slim Chickens has signed a franchise deal for 12 units in the state of Pennsylvania. Plans include the addition of restaurants in the counties of Lancaster, Lebanon, Dauphin, York, Cumberland, Centre, Franklin, Mifflin, Juniata, Perry and Adams. PSMMSM PA Ventures, also a Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee, will own and operate the new units.

Atlanta — Atlanta-based fast-casual brand Chick-fil-A will open four new restaurants in metro Miami. Chick-fil-A has broken ground on the first of the units, which will comprise 4,800 square feet in Cutler Bay. Dustin Griffiths of Chick-fil-A and David Emihovich of Katz & Associates represented Chick-fil-A in the lease negotiations. Michael Berkowitz of Berkowitz Development Group and Douglas Landsea of Landsea Development are the landlords. Development is scheduled to begin on three additional restaurants — which will be located in Miami Shores, Pinecrest and Princeton — later this year.

Atlanta — Atlanta-based fast-casual cheeseburger brand Smalls Sliders has signed two multi-unit franchise deals in the state of Florida. An entity doing business as DPC Smalls Investments, which is led by Doug Cone, will own and operate the 12 new restaurants, known as “Cans.” Locations for the new Cans will include Jacksonville, Tallahassee, St. Augustine, Lake City and Orange Park, with the first unit scheduled to open early next year.
