Mesa, Ariz. — Vestar, a shopping center and mixed-use developer based in Phoenix, has partnered with Pacific Proving LLC, a landowning entity that controls 1,805 acres in the state capital’s East Valley, to co-develop a $2 billion mixed-use project. Atlanta — Atlanta-based cheeseburger slider concept Smalls Sliders has signed a franchise agreement to open four new units across Kentucky and Tennessee, marking the brand’s second appearance in both states. Entrepreneur Matthew Robinson will own and operate the restaurants, which are dubbed “Cans.” Following recent multi-unit deals in Lexington, Kentucky, and Knoxville, Tennessee, Smalls Sliders’ newest locations will include Cans in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and three other locations throughout Clarksville and Henderson, Tennessee. Los Angeles — Los Angeles-based Prime Pizza, a rapidly expanding New York-style pizza restaurant, has signed leases for five new locations in Southern California. The locations are at Alicia Landing Shopping Center in Mission Viejo; Gaslight Square in Brea; Farmers & Merchants Bank Center in Torrance; and two freestanding locations, one in Thousand Oaks and another in Valley Village, California. Phoenix — Vestar has received approval from the Village Planning Committee to develop Laveen Towne Center, an open-air shopping center in Phoenix’s southwest submarket of Laveen. Warner Robins, Ga. — BJ’s Wholesale Club plans to open a new grocery store and BJ’s Gas station south of Atlanta in Warner Robins. The Telegraph reports that the 21-acre site will house the 104,170-square-foot grocery store and 582 parking spaces, as well as a 2,204-square-foot gas station with eight pumps that opened in late August. The new BJ’s Wholesale Club store is set to open on Friday, Sept. 12. The property represents the first BJ’s Wholesale Club store in middle Georgia and its seventh in the state, according to The Telegraph.

Duluth, Ga. — The Urban Redevelopment Agency of Gwinnett County has approved the purchase of a former Sears department store at Gwinnett Place Mall, a struggling regional mall situated along Pleasant Hill Road near Interstate 85 in metro Atlanta. Northwood Ravin will sell the 11.5-acre site to the county for $11.5 million, the same price the Charlotte-based multifamily developer paid for the property in 2018.
