Morgan Cos. intends to develop the 9.6-acre site into a shopping center anchored by a 48,387-square-foot Publix grocery store and 13,400 square feet of inline retail space. Prego’s Trattoria restaurant, located on an outparcel, is also part of the purchased property. Millbrae, Calif. — A partnership between Republic Urban Properties and Principal Real Estate Investors is preparing to break ground on a transit-oriented, mixed-use project named Gateway at Millbrae Station in Millbrae, a suburb just south of San Francisco. Located at the Millbrae Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station, the development will comprise 157,000 square feet of office space, 320 market-rate apartments, 80 affordable housing units, a 164-room hotel, 400 homes and 44,000 square feet of retail. Ormond Beach, Fla. — The Ferber Co. has completed the 33,000-square-foot Phase II of The Shoppes at Granada in Ormond Beach, Florida. Chicago — Starbucks Coffee Co. has opened its Reserve Roastery in downtown Chicago. The 35,000-square-foot, five-story roastery opened to the public Friday, Nov. 15 and is the largest Starbucks location. The store is located in the Magnificent Mile in a space formerly occupied by Crate & Barrel. All of the coffee beans roasted at the facility are served and sold on site. Kansas City, Mo. — Linwood Investors LLC has broken ground on its $8 million redevelopment of Linwood Square, a blighted retail strip center in the Linwood-Prospect corridor on Kansas City’s east side. The project complements the redevelopment of the Linwood Shopping Center, which the company completed in 2017. Linwood Square is a 55,000-square-foot property originally built in 1992. Project plans call for new exterior facades and roofing as well as energy-efficient HVAC, LED lighting and an interior redesign. Project funding comes from public incentives and private financing. Boston — Kitchen remodeling firm Express Kitchens plans to significantly increase its Massachusetts footprint in 2020 by opening three new retail stores and five new showrooms in and around the Boston area. Express Kitchens will open stores in the suburbs of Lynn, Watertown, Dedham, Peabody, Reading, Medford, Brockton and Weymouth. Showrooms will display a range of kitchens, cabinets and countertops, which customers will be able to purchase for their homes in-store or from the company’s website.
Loughman, Fla. — Publix Super Markets Inc. has opened a 49,000-square-foot store within Loughman Crossing in Loughman. The prototype location includes a drive-thru pharmacy. Halvorsen Holdings is developing Loughman Crossing, which is also home to Publix Liquors, AT&T, Great Clips, Erlyn’s Taxes and Encore Nails. Loughman Crossing spans 78,200 square feet and includes six outparcels. Located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 17-92 and Ronald Reagan Parkway, the property sits 15 miles southwest of Walt Disney World and 30 miles southwest of downtown Orlando.
New York City — Wegmans Food Markets will open a 74,000-square-foot grocery store at the Brooklyn Navy Yard mixed-use development. The chain has garnered a cult following in the Northeast since it expanded from its original Rochester location in 1968 and now operates 100 stores, including 46 in New York. Eater New York reports that the new store will feature 350 varieties of cheese, a full-service bar and made-to-order meals at several hot and cold bars. The store is slated to open Sunday, Oct. 27.
