Cowgill to Develop 44-Acre Hamburg East Mixed-Use Development in Lexington, Kentucky

Lexington, Ky. — Cowgill Inc. has announced plans to develop a new, 44-acre mixed-use project in Lexington. Dubbed Hamburg East, the property will feature restaurant, hotel, apartment, retail and green space. Hamburg East will also include a 41-acre parcel that was acquired by the University of Kentucky in September and designated as the site of a new medical facility. Construction on the development is scheduled to begin immediately. The project team includes ATS Construction, Davis H. Elliott Co., Design Works and Vision Engineering. Walmart Plans to Add 150 New Stores, Remodel 650 Existing Locations

Bentonville, Ark. — Walmart (NYSE: WMT) has announced plans to expand by more than 150 new stores over the next five years, both through new construction and converting existing buildings.  The first two stores under this initiative — both under the company’s smaller-format Walmart Neighborhood Market banner — are scheduled to open this spring in Santa Rosa, Florida, and Atlanta. In addition to Innovations Commons, Epperson Ranch will feature single-family homes, a 200-room hotel and apartments. Innovation Commons will also include three outparcel developments for additional retail, restaurants and professional services.

Doral, Fla. — Codina Partners will add 25,000 square feet of retail space to Downtown Doral, the developer’s 250-acre mixed-use community in Doral. Established in 2005, the development features more than 40 existing restaurants and retailers, a cultural arts center, two charter schools and a government center. The new plans include the addition of 13 customizable retail units with a rooftop deck featuring amenities including pickleball courts. Plans also include 929 additional parking spaces.

Disney Proposes $1.9 Billion Expansion of Disneyland Theme Park in Anaheim, California

Anaheim, Calif. — The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) has proposed a $1.9 billion expansion of its Disneyland Resort and surrounding neighborhood in Anaheim, south of Los Angeles in Orange County. If approved, the various new projects would be carried out within 10 years of the approval date, with the potential for another $600 million in capital investment to follow. SG Holdings Completes Leasing at $350 Million Mixed-Use Development in Miami, Plans Summer Opening

Miami — SG Holdings has completed leasing at Sawyer’s Walk, a 3.4-acre mixed-use development underway in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood. The project, which will feature retail space, offices and affordable housing for seniors, is set to open this summer. SG Holdings is a partnership comprising Swerdlow Group, SJM Partners and Alben Duffie. The development team broke ground on Sawyer’s Walk in summer 2021. Lexington, S.C.  — Lowes Foods has signed a lease to anchor Platt Springs Crossing, a 50-acre mixed-use development currently underway in Lexington. Lowes Foods will occupy 51,000 square feet. Other tenants will include Chipotle Mexican Grill, Tidal Wave Car Wash, Panda Express and Planet Fitness. An affiliate of NAI Columbia doing business as LLDC Platt Springs LF LLC is the developer of the project, which is scheduled to begin opening early next year. Slim Chickens Signs 14-Unit Franchise Deal in Kansas and Missouri

Kansas and Missouri — Arkansas-based fast-casual brand Slim Chickens has signed a franchise deal for the development of 14 restaurants in Kansas and Missouri. Jeff McCoy of AP Restaurant Group, an established Slim Chickens franchisee with stores in Oklahoma and Kansas City, will own and operate the restaurants. Slim Chickens’ current footprint includes more than 250 locations in the U.S. and the U.K., with more than 1,200 restaurants in development.
