Buford, Ga. — Topgolf Entertainment Group will open a new 72-bay Topgolf venue in Buford in spring 2021. Construction is currently underway at the two-level property, which will feature climate-controlled bays. The asset will be situated within The Exchange at Gwinnett, 35 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. Topgolf Entertainment expects to hire 250 employees at the new site. The asset will be situated at 4631 Columbus St., equidistant between downtown Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Atlanta — Puttshack, a technology-infused mini-golf operator from the same team behind Topgolf, has broken ground on a new location at The Interlock in Atlanta. The 25,000-square-foot Puttshack is expected to open in spring 2021. The property will feature four mini-golf courses, a bar and an indoor-outdoor rooftop patio. Knoxville, Tenn. — Regal Cinemas will temporarily suspend operations at all of its 536 U.S. theaters beginning Thursday, Oct. 8. British owner-operator Cineworld owns Knoxville, Tennessee-based Regal Cinemas, which has about 7,000 screens across its U.S. portfolio of theaters. Cineworld also announced plans to close all of its theaters in the United Kingdom this week. Burbank, Calif. — The Walt Disney Co. will lay off 28,000 employees who were previously furloughed due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to multiple media reports. Disney World in Orlando, Fla., and Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., both closed in mid-March due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Disney’s chief financial officer Christine McCarthy said in May that for every two weeks the parks were closed, the company lost $500 million. O’Fallon, Ill. — Knoebel Construction has completed building a new Drake’s restaurant in O’Fallon near St. Louis. The 6,014-square-foot restaurant and entertainment venue features two full-service bars and a covered patio. Drake’s, an entity of parent company Bluegrass Hospitality Group, is a Kentucky-based chain with 15 locations across the Midwest and Southeast.
