Duluth, Ga. — Gwinnett County’s Urban Redevelopment Agency has acquired Macy’s department and furniture stores totaling 293,059 square feet at Gwinnett Place Mall, a beleaguered regional shopping mall in the northeast Atlanta suburb of Duluth. With this 23-acre acquisition, the county — which initially purchased a 39-acre portion of the Gwinnett Place Mall site in 2021 — will own a total 76 acres at the site. Atlanta — Paper products manufacturing and marketing giant Georgia-Pacific has announced plans to redevelop the company’s 51-story world headquarters building and the surrounding city block in downtown Atlanta. Atlanta — Shoe and sports apparel retailer The Athlete’s Foot, which operates 400 stores in 24 countries, has opened a flagship store in Midtown Atlanta. Located along the Atlanta BeltLine adjacent to Piedmont Park, the new space also features a community center component that will serve as “cultural hub” for community engagement. Hinesville, Ga. — Branch Properties has acquired 9.7 acres of land for Flemington Village, a 57,851-square-foot shopping center to be developed in Hinesville, approximately 40 miles southwest of Savannah. A 46,791-square-foot Publix will anchor the center, which is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2025. The property will also feature 11,060 square feet of inline retail space and an outparcel.
Brookhaven, Ga. — JLL has brokered the sale of Brookhaven Station, a 44,966-square-foot retail center located in the Atlanta suburb of Brookhaven. SITE Centers acquired the property from Hendon Properties for an undisclosed price. Originally built in 1985, the center was renovated between 2022 and 2023. Tenants at the property include Chick-fil-A, Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q, Chop’t and Mellow Mushroom. Jim Hamilton, Brad Buchanan and Andrew Kahn of JLL represented the seller in the transaction.
Austell, Ga. — Hendon Properties has acquired East West Shops, an 85,565-square-foot shopping center located in Austell, Georgia. Concorde Group Holdings sold the property for $15.2 million. OneLife Fitness, Starbucks Coffee and Urgent Team anchor the center, which was 96 percent occupied at the time of sale. Located in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Tennessee, the portfolio includes 10 Outback Steakhouse restaurants and 10 Carrabba’s Italian Grill restaurants, with one dual-tenant property occupied by both concepts. McDonough, Ga. — Chick-fil-A has opened its first elevated, drive-thru only restaurant in the south Atlanta suburb of McDonough. The restaurant features four drive-thru lanes running below an elevated kitchen that is twice the size of a typical Chick-fil-A kitchen.
