Pasadena, Calif. — Dave’s Hot Chicken opened eight new restaurants on April 16, expanding its footprint to more than 400 locations worldwide. The fast-casual concept, which originated in Los Angeles, is bringing its Nashville-style hot chicken to multiple markets, including Fairlawn, Ohio; Oneonta, New York; Edina, Minnesota; Gastonia, North Carolina; Arlington Heights, Illinois; Miami; Saratoga, Utah; and Waterford, Connecticut. Founded in 2017, Dave’s Hot Chicken has sold the rights to more than 1,020 franchise locations in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Canada, and will open 70-plus locations this year.

St. Augustine, Fla. — St. Augustine, Florida-based specialty retail brand The Spice & Tea Exchange has signed a franchise agreement to open seven new stores across Oklahoma and Virginia. The newly signed agreements include one unit in Guthrie, Oklahoma; two, three-unit development deals in Fredericksburg, Charlottesville and Roanoke, Virginia; and Lexington, plus two additional territories to be announced. Bentonville, Ark. — Walmart Inc. has announced plans to invest in more than 650 scheduled remodels of Walmart Supercenter and Walmart Neighborhood Market stores this year. The Bentonville-based retail giant also plans to open roughly 20 new stores throughout the remainder of 2026 and early 2027.  Plans include the expansion of a Walmart Supercenter in Tucson, Ariz., as well as the opening of a Supercenter store in Celina, Texas. Monument, Colo. —  A partnership between Legacy Development Partners (LDP) and The Garrett Cos. has acquired approximately 30 acres to develop Legacy at Jackson Landing, a 225,000-square-foot retail center located at the northeast quadrant of Interstate 25 and Baptist Road in Monument, roughly 20 miles north of Colorado Springs. Virginia Beach, Va. — BIVI/Padel has acquired the former Beach Cinema Alehouse, a dine-in movie theater located at 941 Laskin Road in Virginia Beach, for $6.3 million. The buyers — a partnership between Jason Vickers-Smith and Ahmad Butt — plan to transform the property into an indoor padel facility, dubbed the Padel Foundry, creating a social “third space.” The facility is targeted to open in early 2027.
