Petersburg, Va. — The City of Petersburg has selected Bruce Smith Enterprise and The Cordish Cos. to co-develop a $1.4 billion gaming and entertainment district in Petersburg, roughly 24 miles south of Richmond. Montebello, Calif. — Topgolf will open a new, 70,000-square-foot venue in Montebello, approximately 10 miles outside downtown Los Angeles. Upon completion, the facility will feature 102 outdoor climate-controlled hitting bays across three levels, as well as a full-service restaurant, 200 televisions, a 28-foot video wall, outdoor patio, rooftop terrace and private event rooms. Scheduled to open in May, this will mark the third Topgolf venue to be located in the Los Angeles metro.
Houston — Australian-based Funlab has opened a new, 12,000-square-foot Holey Moley Mini Golf Club in Houston. In addition to three nine-hole miniature golf courses, the venue features two private karaoke rooms and a full-service bar and restaurant, dubbed The Caddyshack. Funlab’s current portfolio includes two Holey Moley facilities in Denver and Austin. An additional venue is scheduled to open in San Francisco this year.
Graycor Completes Construction of 45,000-Square-Foot Wonderverse Entertainment Space in Suburban Chicago
Oakbrook, Ill. — Graycor Construction Co. has completed Wonderverse, a 45,000-square-foot entertainment space at Oakbrook Center in suburban Chicago. The project features a hybrid of physical and multi-media experiences, interactive installations, attractions and experiences, allowing visitors to step into their favorite Sony Pictures stories. Sony is the project’s owner. The space includes escape rooms, virtual reality adventures, bumper cars, racing simulators, an arcade and speakeasy. The project team included Scenario as the owner’s representative and EXP as the architect of record.
White Plains, N.Y. — Apple Cinemas has signed an 80,000-square-foot lease at City Center in White Plains. The theater will offer stadium recliner seats, digital projection and sound and food-and-beverage options including burger concept BurgerFi. Don Mace of KeyPoint Partners represented the tenant in the lease negotiations.
Alexandria, Va. — JBG Smith has announced the cancellation of Potomac Yards, an entertainment district project that would have comprised 9 million square feet within the National Landing neighborhood in Alexandria, roughly eight miles south of Washington, D.C. A partnership between the developer and Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) first proposed the development — which would have been anchored by a new arena for the NHL’s Washington Capitals and NBA’s Washington Wizards — in December of last year. Miami — Bowlero Corp. has opened Lucky Strike Miami, a 30,000-square-foot entertainment venue within the $6 billion Miami Worldcenter development. The facility is the second new build for Bowlero under the Lucky Strike name since acquiring the brand in September 2023. Lucky Strike Miami features 28 bowling lanes, an arcade, craft cocktail bar, food service and a VIP room with six private bowling lanes.
Atlanta — Centennial Yards Co., a development entity owned by CIM Group, has unveiled plans for a new entertainment district that will comprise the next phase of its $5 billion Centennial Yards mixed-use destination in downtown Atlanta. Spanning eight acres adjacent to Mercedes-Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena, the mixed-use entertainment will span 480,000 square feet across four buildings, in addition to a fan gathering area that the developer says will be heavily utilized during the games held in Atlanta during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. McKinney, Texas —Hospitality and entertainment operator Notes Live will open Sunset Amphitheater, a $220 million live music and entertainment venue, in the northern Dallas suburb of McKinney. Situated on a 46-acre site, the venue will have the capacity to house about 20,000 people and will feature more than 250 luxury firepit suites, owners club seats and traditional reserved seats in the middle and lower levels of the bowl. Construction is scheduled to begin before the end of the year, with completion expected in 2026.
