Harwood Heights, Ill. — NARE Investments has acquired Harwood Commons, a 142,195-square-foot shopping center in metro Chicago’s Harwood Heights. The purchase price was undisclosed. Harwood Commons, located at 4701 N. Harlem Ave. and built in 1981, is home to Burlington, Marshalls and Aldi. CBRE’s National Retail Partners Midwest team represented the seller, Icahn Enterprises.

Toronto — Slate Retail REIT has reported during its second quarter earnings call that it experienced the best quarter of leasing since its founding in 2014. The Toronto-based company, which owns and operates 70 grocery-anchored shopping centers in the United States, reports that it completed 464,326 square feet of lease renewals and 54,365 square feet of new leasing. The 518,691 square feet total is a 60 percent jump over second-quarter 2019. The REIT’s portfolio occupancy rate dropped 0.6 percent in the three months ending June 30 to 92.2 percent. Slate …

Chaska, Minn. — Hanley Investment Group Real Estate Advisors has arranged the $3 million sale of a 23,201-square-foot property occupied by Aldi in Chaska, a southwest suburb of Minneapolis. The single-tenant building is located at 110 Hazeltine Blvd., adjacent to the Hazeltine National Golf Club. Jeff Lefko and Bill Asher of Hanley represented the seller and developer, TOLD Development Co. A Santa Barbara, California-based private investor purchased the asset.

Baltimore — Sprouts Farmers Market will open a new store in Baltimore on Wednesday, July 22. The store, located at 3800 Boston St., will be the fifth location in Maryland for the Phoenix-based grocer. Sprouts is following CDC guidelines at the location, requiring employees to wear masks, promoting social distancing and installing plexiglass barriers at registers. New York City — Whole Foods Market has opened a 60,245-square-foot store at 450 W. 33rd St. in Manhattan’s 5.4 million-square-foot Hudson Yards mixed-use development. The store offers a cocktail bar that serves to-go drinks, a beauty and body care section and a convenience market at street level for customers needing a grab-and-go meal, snack or beverage. The store is the 14th in New York City for Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods.

St. Johns, Fla. — Pebb Enterprises has unveiled its plans for a new 58,900-square-foot, Publix-anchored shopping center in St. Johns. Publix will occupy 48,400 square feet at the center, which will feature 10,500 square feet of in-line retail space. Publix Liquor Store and Lavender Spa have also signed leases at the space. Pebb Enterprises closed on the $2.8 million land sale July 10 and has begun site work. The Boca Raton, Fla.-based developer expects to deliver the property in summer 2021. The new 46,000-square-foot grocery store will be situated at 967 Florida Ave. NW in D.C.’s Pleasant Plains neighborhood, less than two miles north of downtown D.C. and less than one mile from Howard University. Reno, Nev. — Safeway has broken ground for a new grocery store at Damonte Ranch Town Center, located at the corner of Steamboat Parkway and Damonte Ranch Parkway in south Reno. The 62,000-square-foot store will be the grocery store chain’s third location in the Reno-Sparks market. Safeway will join RC Willey and The Home Depot as anchor tenants at the 509,000-square-foot shopping center, which Lewis Retail Centers owns. Christianburg, Va. — A group of developers will build a new prototype of the specialty grocer in Christianburg. Walt Rector, founding principal of Flagstaff, Ariz.-based Bromont Investments, and investment partner Chris Carlsen, are leading the development of the Earth Fare, which will be located within  Christianburg Marketplace.
