Knoxville, Tenn. — Regal Cinemas will temporarily suspend operations at all of its 536 U.S. theaters beginning Thursday, Oct. 8. British owner-operator Cineworld owns Knoxville, Tennessee-based Regal Cinemas, which has about 7,000 screens across its U.S. portfolio of theaters. Cineworld also announced plans to close all of its theaters in the United Kingdom this week. The Closter, New Jersey-based owner and developer is working to redevelop Hershey Square Shopping Center in Hummelstown and Berlin Mall in Berlin. New York City — Reading International, an international cinema and real estate firm, has unveiled the redevelopment of the historic Tammany Hall Building at 44 Union Square in Manhattan. The former 19th-century political hub is now a Class A building with 73,095 square feet of space that can be utilized for either retail or office usage. BKSK Architects designed the project, which included a restoration of the façade and the addition of a three-story glass and steel dome with 19-foot ceilings and views overlooking Union Square.

West Covina, Calif. — Waterford Property Co. has acquired Marketplace at the Lakes, a value-add retail property located at 904-907 Lakes Drive in West Covina. CIM Group sold the asset for $18.6 million. Built in 1994 on seven acres, Marketplace at the Lakes features 95,628 square feet of retail space. The property is fully leased to Chipotle, Farmers Insurance, Domino’s, Lush Nail Spa and Yoga Fit. Burbank, Calif. — The Walt Disney Co. will lay off 28,000 employees who were previously furloughed due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to multiple media reports. Disney World in Orlando, Fla., and Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., both closed in mid-March due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Disney’s chief financial officer Christine McCarthy said in May that for every two weeks the parks were closed, the company lost $500 million.
